Roblox Is Removing R6, An Avatar Body Type That Is Present In Most Obbies and Older Games.
What is R6, R15, and RTHRO?
They are all avatar body animations and possess dissimilar amounts of joints (ex: R6 = 6 joints for character/avatar movement), as well differing levels of success, with arguably the least favored one being Rthro.
Focusing more on R6 and its relation to older games, importance, and nostalgia, we can easily see that R6 is the most favored avatar animation by roblox developers making obbies due to the standardized size of R6 avatars. You might have noticed yourself how when you walk in obbies, your avatar’s elbow and knee joints do not move (they move like a straight stick), due to the fact that R6 possesses no more than 6 joints. Besides obbies, most older games (such as Sword Fight on The Heights and Prison Life) also use R6. But with roblox removing R6, all these types of games will break, and the developers using R6 animation for their games will have to update them.
Obbies will be more difficult to develop in the future, with developers constantly having to remind themselves to make obstacles available to trek, jump, swim, duck, and slide through for all sizes of avatar. However, no matter how hard a developer tries, small roblox avatars (such as the Jester Equinox Rthro avatar package), big roblox avatars (such as the David Bazooka avatar package), and other avatar packages/items that are glitchy will always find a way to break the obby.
As I have already mentioned, by removing the R6 animations, roblox is essentially shutting down obbies and older games and forcing their developers to make it Rthro-Friendly. Games will be shut down and shut down and re-developed with R15 and Rthro animations in mind, but perhaps some will never be re-developed, left as a token of remembrance for future generations of players to remember the old, nostalgic R6 animation pack and the games which supported it.
Older roblox players would remember back when the R6 avatar animation was widely used or was the only avatar animation possible. When roblox first released as an actual game with the title of “Roblox”, there were only the R6 avatar animations.
Even now, older roblox games that were giants back in the earlier days of roblox still use R6, games such as Sword fight on the heights, or the ever-popular “Natural disaster Survival. To this day people still enjoy these older roblox games, and reminiscing about their childhood, playing a game which still excites them even today. All in all, the R6 avatar walk, jump, run, and etc. are really not the basic avatar animation, but rather, a token of Roblox’s past, as well as the future.
Popular roblox youtubers such as Kreekcraft, are mentioning/criticizing Roblox’s decision on removing R6, Kreekcraft in particular suggested on one of his live streams that rather than remove R6 altogether, roblox players should have different avatar for each avatar body/animation (R6, 15, Rthro) and developers should tailor their game towards one avatar animation type in particular, and make their game use only a player’s specific avatar type (ex: for obbies developers might want the game to only use a player’s R6 avatar).
Other suggestions are also pouring in on twitter, with many cries of outrage and terror as a feeling of seeing their a summary of their whole childhood crumbling to dust in front of them. All in all, there is a wide palette of responses that you can listen, hear, or read about, but remember that Roblox’s decision may not be a final verdict, as was voice chat being strictly 13+ and required ID verification (which is now rolling at to players of every age and you can read more about this in a link to another article below).
You, You, You.
